11/8/2010 Note #1 Background: DI-194RS vs. DI-145 and an Invitation

Model DI-145 is the imminent replacement for the discontinued DI-194RS data acquisition starter kit. In addition to a facelift provided by its new enclosure, the DI-145 parlays all we learned from the thousands of ways customers used (and sometimes abused) the DI-194RS. For instance, we knew we had to make its analog and digital inputs tougher, so the DI-145’s will tolerate ±240 and ±30 V peak respectively without damage. We knew that the RS-232 interface of the DI-194 was no longer viable for today’s modern computers, so its replacement provides a native USB interface, along with signed driver support for Windows XP (32-bit), and both 32-and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7. We also knew that some DI-194RS customers do not use the supplied WinDaq data acquisition, playback and analysis software, but access it from the protocol level to integrate it into unique measurement situations and/or operating systems. So, we’re designing the DI-145 to be backward compatible with the DI-194RS’s protocol.

Please subscribe to our RSS and Twitter feeds as we navigate the release process that ushers the DI-145 from vision to finished product with an anticipated release in the first quarter of 2011. As we make progress we’ll report it to you with constant updates – even the inevitable bumps along the way. Until such time as we make our first DI-145 customer shipments, we think you’ll have an insider’s view of DATAQ Instruments’ hardware and software development and manufacturing processes, and an appreciation for the various disciplines we marshall to bring products to market. We hope you’ll join us for the journey.
