NEW LINE OF PORTABLE INSTRUMENTATION MODULES OFFERS UNIQUE CHANNEL-TO-CHANNEL ISOLATION AND SYNCHRONIZATION FEATURES
AKRON, OH, September 3, 2002 — DATAQ® Instruments announces that it has added the DI-1000TC line of instrumentation modules, designed for temperature measurements using thermocouples, to the popular DI-1000 family of PC-based instrumentation.
The Model DI-1000TC is designed for use across the entire spectrum of temperature measurement applications. Its channel-to-channel isolation feature allows it to be used in more demanding industrial applications that experience the large common mode voltages (offground measurements) that are typical of grounded thermocouples. Such measurement situations will prevent non-isolated instruments from making an inaccurate measurement at best, or destroy them in the worst case. In addition, the modules support time synchronization of measurements among connected modules, which ensures that readings that must be taken simultaneously are, indeed, simultaneous.
Rugged enough for heavy industrial use under harsh temperature conditions, the DI-1000TC's small size and wide measurement range also make it perfect for laboratory applications. In addition, the instrument can be mixed and matched with other members of the DI-1000 series to make it easy to assemble a complete instrumentation system.
The DI-1000TC is part of the DATAQ DI-1000 family of portable, adaptable, interchangeable, expandable, stackable, connectable, and affordable PC-based instrumentation. DI-1000 instruments are designed from the ground up to cost-effectively signal condition, digitize, and interface industrial measurements to personal computers. They employ a revolutionary design that makes crucial, and previously costly, input-to-output and channel-to-channel isolation as inexpensive as solutions that offer no isolation at all. DI-1000 products feature both a built-in RS-422 interface and support for the industry standard Modbus RTU protocol. Any single module, or the first in an array of expanded modules, can communicate data for itself and/or the other modules directly with the host PC over the PC's RS-232 or USB port using an inexpensive adapter.
The DI-1000TC provides 1000 VDC and peak AC input-to-output, channel-to-channel and channel-to-ground isolation. Competitive products either omit the channel-to-channel isolation, referring all inputs to the same floating ground, or charge much more for the feature. The DI-1000TC's full isolation feature is provided at no increase in price.
The DI-1000TC also supports the industry-standard Modbus® communications protocol, enhanced with the ability to synchronize measurements among units. This means that modules can be placed wherever they're needed (as much as 4000 feet apart) yet report data on all modules within ±50 µs of each other. There are applications in which this ability to take many simultaneous readings is crucial, and without synchronization there is no way to know the time relationships among inputs.
In applications where distance is not a factor, the DI-1000TC can also be connected directly to a computer using its RS-232 or USB interface.
Multiple DI-1000TC units may be connected individually or used as expansion units with any combination of other DI-1000 instruments. For example, multiple DI-1000TCs may be connected to each other to provide unique four, eight, 12, 16 or other channel counts up to 256. DI-1000TC products may also be mixed and matched with other DI-1000 instruments to yield unique measurement configurations that feature various input types (e.g. simultaneous T/C, strain, digital I/O, and voltage)?all with sample synchronization.
The DI-1000TC is available in 4-channel or 8-channel versions. Each channel may be configured in software to support one of eight thermocouple types: J, K, T, E, S, B, N, or R. Temperature measurements may range from -200 °C to +1820 °C (-328 °F to +3308 °F), depending upon thermocouple type. Each DI-1000TC thermocouple channel features a panel-mounted, miniature spade connector.
Like all DI-1000 Series instruments, the DI-1000TC features a small (13.81D × 10.48W × 3.81H cm; 5 7/16D × 4 1/8W × 1½H in.) footprint with an aluminum base and all-steel wraparound.
Other System Features:
- Built-in open T/C detection Clearly indicates damaged or defective T/Cs.
- Extremely wide CJC range (-40 to 125 °C; -40 to 257 °F) Allows the DI-1000TC to provide accurate measurements in a wide range of ambient temperature conditions.
- High accuracy and resolution design Allows sharpened decisions with an overall accuracy of ±0.2% and temperature resolution as fine as 0.08 °C.
- RJ45 expansion connector Allows multiple devices to be connected together using inexpensive Cat. 5 cable.
- Optional PDA software Allows DI-1000TC units to be connected to a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) for compact and purely portable data acquisition situations.
DATAQ provides WinDaq/Lite free with every DI-1000 Series instrument purchased without WinDaq/Pro or WinDaq/Pro+ software. WinDaq/Lite is a 16-channel version of WinDaq/Pro that works at the full sample rate of the DI-1000 Series instrument, but is restricted to a maximum throughput of 240 Hz when recording to disk.
WinDaq Waveform Browser, DATAQ's playback and analysis software for Windows, is distributed free with WinDaq/Lite and is included free with every WinDaq/Pro or WinDaq/Pro+ purchase. It is also available for download free-of-charge from the company's Web site, www.dataq.com.
Free ActiveX software is provided for those who prefer to write their own applications code using any Windows programming language such as Visual Basic, Visual C++, and Delphi.
