NEW MODULES PUT ICP® SIGNAL CONDITIONING INTO A 5B-STYLE PACKAGE
AKRON, OH, October 10, 2002 - DATAQ® Instruments announces the release of the DI-5BICP Series of amplifiers. These are the first units that put the functions and features of ICP-style amplifiers into the industry-standard 5B module configuration.
Small, rugged, and inexpensive 5B-style amplifiers have been an industry standard for more than 15 years, used in applications ranging from process control to general purpose instrumentation signal conditioning. ICP transducers feature built-in charge amplifiers that measure force, acceleration, and pressure. DI-5BICP amplifiers merge these two technologies and allow ICP transducers to be applied in the same environments as other 5B-measured parameters.
Two DI-5BICP models are available. Both amplifiers feature a built-in constant-current excitation source and an AC-coupled unity-gain amplifier to pass only the dynamic portion of the input signal. Model DI-5BICP-PEAK simply passes this conditioned signal on for digitization by a DATAQ Instruments data acquisition system. This amplifier should be used when the application demands a complete reproduction of the force, pressure or acceleration waveform. Model DI-5BICP-RMS expands on this basic design by providing a true rms converter useful for lower speed trending of the true rms value of applied force, pressure or acceleration.
Where they're used 5B amplifiers are used in a wide variety of data acquisition applications, handling signals from strain gages or strain gage-based transducers, thermocouples, pulse trains from which speed information is derived, rms voltage, and process current, and are usually mixed and matched to suit each individual application. Before the availability of DI-5BICP modules, the introduction of just one ICP channel into the instrumentation mix usually required the addition of a specialized conditioning box to the system, adding cost, bulk, and inconvenience. With the introduction of DI-5BICP modules, ICP-style transducers can be added to the instrumentation mix, their amplifiers installed in the same backplane with the other 5B amplifiers. This means that force, pressure, or acceleration are as easily measured as any other variable.
